AZEEZ AFEEZ

Nigeria, born in the early 90s

Azeez Afeez, born in Lagos, Nigeria, in the early 1990s, is a contemporary artist known for his expressive figurative compositions. His work is distinguished by dynamic, textured backgrounds that often resemble fractured surfaces, evoking the roughness of crumbling walls.

Afeez’s unique style is defined by human figures rendered through fragmented, interwoven lines and intricate skin patterns, layered with textures that imbue his subjects with individuality and cultural symbolism. These elements create depth and movement, showcasing his mastery of mediums such as acrylic, oil, gesso, and resist techniques on canvas.

Inspired by his childhood in Lagos, Afeez draws from his observations of daily social interactions in a diverse, multicultural community. His work explores themes of coexistence, identity, and the vibrancy of urban life, capturing its complexities and nuances with striking visual language.

A graduate of the Polytechnic of Ibadan, where he majored in Painting Technology, Afeez has participated in exhibitions across Nigeria and the United States. His works have been acquired by private collectors worldwide, cementing his reputation as a rising figure in contemporary art.
